James Gunn and the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 have collaborated with Baywatch legend David Hasselhoff to make a fun retro music video for original soundtrack song “Guardians Inferno.”
One of the more notable elements that definitely contributed to the success of the two Guardians of the Galaxy films is their surreal commitment to nostalgic parts of pop culture from the 1980’s. Driven by the “Awesome Mixes” that Peter Quill/Star Lord made before his time in space, the soundtrack gives the two superhero films a rhythm and a tone that is incredibly unique to the rest of the genre. Besides the soundtrack, the countless references to famous figures like Mary Poppins, Kevin Bacon and Jackson Pollack give the space adventures a relatable flavor for audiences.
Keeping with the 80’s motif of the series, Marvel and director James Gunn have dropped a music video that feels like it’s ripped straight from the most flamboyant decade to promote the release of the Guardians Vol. 2 digital download release on August 8th and home release on August 22nd. The video, posted on Marvel’s YouTube page, shows actors like Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista and Karen Gillan getting down and funky with the beat of “Guardians Inferno,” the original song created for the sequel by The Sneepers and David Hasselhoff.
The “Hoff,” who briefly appears in the film in an important cameo, is front and center in this video, all bedazzled out and animated as he sings along to the song. He’s upstaged at the end by yet another brilliant Stan Lee cameo, adding another legendary clip to his amazing reel of appearances. Overall, it’s a fun video that should get fans excited to buy Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 when it becomes available later this month.
